Where does McDonalds Cheese Come From? | McDonalds NZ (2024)

We get a lot of questions about our cheese from our customers. Questions like is McDonald's cheese real? Or where does it come from? We aim to put all the rumours about our cheese to rest and show that McDonald's cheese is 100% real and 100% New Zealand made.

MADE FROM NZ MILK

McDonald's cheese is made by our trusted supplier, Fonterra, with milk from dairy farms around the country. The cheese is made in the Taranaki town of Eltham. Eltham may be small, but Fonterra produces three billion burgers worth of cheese for local and export use each year.

NO ARTIFICIAL COLOURING

Wondering where that iconic colour in our cheese comes from? It's from annatto extracts from the seed of the Achiote tree, plus a bit of paprika extract from capsicum fruit. So there you go, all natural.
