Steve was a widely recognized openly gay entertainment reporter and dated Greg Louganis. Once E dropped him, he faded into obscurity. At least, that's how I remember it. Any info? I saw he’s working at a college, but any gossip? How Thomas Roberts? Another one who fell off the radar.

Or Jules Asner?

I thought Steve Kmetko was dreamy and the glasses made him seem like Marilyn Monroe in How to Marry a Millionaire (except she avoided wearing glasses till David Wayne’s millionaire told her he liked her jn them)— like he thought they made him look “smarter.” I still see Thomas Roberts on the news occasionally.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 10, 2023 2:50 AM |
[quote]From September 2020 to August 2022, Roberts served as host of The Daily Mail TV.
Kmetko really seems to have dropped off from any public stuff for the past 10 years.

R1, I checked IMDB, and she hasn't worked in years. On the other hand, she married Steven Soderberg, so she's living large. Work is for the poor.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 10, 2023 3:00 AM |
Steve Kmetko relocated to the Chicago area. He does voiceover work (includes narrating books) and does some lecture work occasionally at his nearby alma mater there (Columbia College).
He's not hard to find (Fraubook, Linkedin).
He put this photo up on FB in September 2022.

Whatever happened to the dreamy Steve Bartlestein? I seem to remember he was a methhead.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 10, 2023 3:02 AM |
I checked Steve’s LinkedIn, and he worked as a Specialist at Apple for two years. No offense, but that’s a huge step down from entertainment reporter.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 10, 2023 3:03 AM |
I was interested more in the gossip/drama/scandals. For example, when he dated Greg Louganis, who dumped whom?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 10, 2023 3:05 AM |
Getting a keeping TV reporter jobs is tough. Often you have to move across the country if you want your career to go forward.
Some decide they want to stay in one city so may have to move from reporter to something else in that town, like professor

Wasn’t he fired because he was high at work?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 10, 2023 3:07 AM |
Kmetko turns 70 in a few months. Still looks good, but wish he kept his hair blond.
Bartelstein still looks good, but not sexy like he was years ago (he's 60 now).
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 10, 2023 3:16 AM |
R10, unfortunately, you'll need to be more specific.

Thomas Roberts and his husband, Patrick Abner, were still seen together in September 2021 (after nine years), but a follower of Abner's mentioned in the comment section of a January 2022 Instagram post that they divorced. Is this true?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 10, 2023 4:09 AM |
R16, wow, if true, that's sad. I remember reading an NYT’s article saying they met in 2000. Twenty-one years! No 2022 photos together on Instagram, and Roberts calls 2021 the toughest year of his life. It's probably true.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 10, 2023 10:46 AM |
That's sad if they divorced. Too bad Roberts' career seems to have stalled. He's a very magnetic TV presence--I would have expected a better outcome

It was the news caster from Philly, I think. He did a stint on Entertainment Tonight too.

Forgot about him. What happened to Ted Casablanca and AJ Benza?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 29, 2023 7:34 PM |
Benza has a podcast and I tried to listen but it was right wing.

Steve went to my gym in the 90s. Always seemed like a nice guy. Worked out hard. I wish him well.

Yes, a step down, but oddly, infinitely more useful in every way. We do have a very odd pecking order in this society.

Thomas Roberts left CNN in 2007 to move to Washington DC to be with his beloved and look for work there. Then he moved out to LA. After his stint in LA he moved to New York City and worked for MSNBC until his show was cancelled in 2016. In 2018 he returned to Atlanta and was the evening anchor at WGCL/CBS. he only lasted there a little over a year. He became embroiled in a little brouhaha due to his penchant for gossiping about coworkers with one of the female anchors. She left the station too. He was accused of contributing to a "toxic work environment". From Sept 2020 to Aug 2022, he served as host of The Daily Mail TV.
No word on what, or who, he's up to now.

I vaguely remember Steve Kmetko getting annoyed when asked about his relationship with Greg Louganis, as though it wasn't serious to him. His loss. Greg seems like a sweetheart.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 30, 2023 5:19 AM |
Greg did seem like a sweetheart but dumb as a bag of rocks and probably twice as dull. Nice to cuddle with after a hot sex session, too, but not very articulate or funny.

E! News was never worth a damn again after Steve Kmetko left in the Early 00s.
Who remembers his co-host Gina St. John?

Steve Bartlestein apparently became an itinerant baseball umpire (at least as of 2016).
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 30, 2023 1:04 PM |
Steve worked with an old friend of mine, Paul Clinton, now deceased at CBS. I spent some time with Steve and others in LA and NYC- mutual friends situations. He was smart, pleasant and fun- low key. I’m sure he still is.

@R20 A Benza was a clownish Brooklyn Italian caricature. He used to pretend he was tough. He was banned from the Howard Stern Show for slapping Stuttering John 20 years ago. Yeah, tough guys are also gossip columnists.

He wasn't the type of stereotypical gay male like Steve Kmetko that FRAUS get wet for but ca. 1998 I thought that Jay DeDapper from Eyewitness New New York was really cute.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 30, 2023 1:58 PM |
How was Steve Kmetko a "stereotypical gay male"? He never looked gay, or acted gay.

Thomas Roberta got fired from MSNBC, he landed in some local Atlanta gig and they ended up not liking him. Then went over to dailymailTV which promptly got cancelled.
So now I assume he just has lots of free time to pursue his real passion, getting fucked up and hungrily taking loads.

So many of the upthread posts about "Steve" don't mention a last name. Are you talking about Kmetko or Bartelstein?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 31, 2023 1:57 PM |
Both. They are the same person. Kmetko is his married name
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 31, 2023 1:58 PM |
Today, a friend of mine linked to an interview that Steve Kmetko just did with Peri Gilpin a day ago.
Looking into this, it appears that Steve started a new podcast series about three weeks ago. It's on Apple, but there are also links to a youtube channel.
He calls the series "Still Here Hollywood." Looks like he's done five episodes so far. "Episode 0' was his intro and preview of what's to come.

Asner even stuck around after he impregnated another woman. He swore it was only a two-night stand that happened while they were separated, while the kid's mom stressed in legal filings that they had sex "many times" during their affair.

I used to bump into him at Akbar, my go-to local spot in Silverlake - it's this fantastic mix of being a gay-owned gay bar, but also straight-friendly, just giving off a nice neighborhood vibe. Back in the late naughts, around 2007-09, I'd catch sight of him at Akbar, usually rolling solo. Instead of mingling, he'd be perched on a barstool, lost in his own little world of booze. Seeing his once-handsome face clouded by the haze of too much drinking was kinda sad.
Even though I'm not into E!, I knew he was a reporter. But the nitty-gritty of his personal and work life? No clue. If you're after a bit of juicy gossip, well, this all I got.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 1, 2024 5:45 PM |
I always thought that Kmetko would’ve been great as a host on TCM - much better than any they have now. And celebrities always seemed to really love him, so he would have had wonderful interviews to take up where Robert Osborne left off when he died.
