Ramsay joins Wigan

Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay has joined Wigan on a season-loan loan.

Speaking on the move, Ramsay said: "I am over the moon. It happened quickly and I met the manager (Shaun Maloney) two weeks ago.

"I had a really good conversation, and there was an instant connection. I’m excited for the start of the season.

"When I was driving to the training ground, there was a real excitement, and I am hungry to get going and show everyone what I can do. It’s a good opportunity at a good club, and I am raring to go."

Johnson on Nunez

Former Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson is confident that Darwin Nunez is still their main man in attack.

He told Squawka: "People still think I’m bonkers, but yeah I think he is. The thing is, I know everyone says he misses so many chances, blah blah blah. Yes, he does, but he creates so many chances, and he’s a pain in the backside for any defender to play against. And even when he’s not scoring goals or getting assists, he’s still affecting the game.

"So I think they’d be absolutely mental to get rid of him. I know a lot of people have said I’m mad for saying it but I’d love to have him in my team."

Solanke on Coutinho

Former Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke has named Philippe Coutinho as one of the three best players he has played with or against during his career.

"Eden Hazard," Solanke said on In The Bag when asked to name the three best players he has played with or against. "He was a scandal to be fair, so good.

"Coutinho, he's so good as well. Then against I'd probably say Neymar, he’s different as well."

Colwill seeking assurances

Levi Colwill is seeking assurances from new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca over his role in the team amid links to Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, according to 90min.com.

Colwill impressed at the start of the season after returning to the Blues following a season on loan at Brighton but struggled with injuries and fitness concerns near the back end of the campaign.

And he is set to ask for guarantees over his place in the squad after the appointment of Maresca on Monday.

Richards praises Van Dijk

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has been full of praise for Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Richards said: "He's had to marshal that backline.

"Trent has been out, Robertson has been out, you've had Quansah and Bradley at the back. People don't understand, you talk about Liverpool going for a title, there are kids there, but Van Dijk is always there, he's unbelieavable, what a player he is."

Origi to return back to Milan

Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi will return back to AC Milan after Nottingham Forest chose not to activate their option to buy the Belgian striker.

The former Redsforward joined Forest on a season-long loan on September 1, containing an option to make this a permanent move for a figure believed to be €5million (£4.2m).

Forest have opted against triggering this contract clause, however, after announcing their released and retained list on Wednesday. A Forest statement read: "The loan deals of Gonzalo Montiel, Divock Origi, Gio Reyna, Rodrigo Ribeiro and Nuno Tavares have come to an end following the conclusion of the season."

Two transfer targets named

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has named Leny Yoro and Willian Pacho as two possible targets for Liverpool over the summer transfer window, with the club eyeing a new centre-back.

18-year-old Yoro has impressed for Lille in Ligue 1 this season. The slightly more experience Pacho has also caught the eye in his first season with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano provided the latest:

"A player they really like but there are many clubs on him is, for example, Leny Yoro," he said. "He is on the list of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, who have also been scouting him - so let's see what happens there.

"And then [Willian] Pacho from Eintracht Frankfurt is another player they have been monitoring and scouting. But again, we have to see who is the player they really want to bring in.

"This isn't decided yet, and so for sure, Liverpool will go in for a new centre-back - but they still have to decide who is the player that they want to bring in."

Man City chairman namechecks Liverpool

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has hit out at the reaction to the club winning an unprecedented fourth league title in a row while facing 115 Premier League charges.

The majority of the charges are for allegedly breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules during the period 2009 to 2018, with a hearing due to take place later this year - more than 18 months after the allegations were made public.

During such a period, City won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and three League Cups. Since emerging as English football’s dominant force, lifting six of the last seven league titles, such a run includes them becoming the first club to win four English top-flight titles in a row, while they also won an historic treble in 2022/23 as they were crowned champions of Europe for the first time in their history.

Liverpool eye Feyenoord defender

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida, according to Dutch outlet AD.

The Reds along with Tottenham, Newcastl and West Ham have been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old who has just one year remaining on his current deal.

Geertruida almost moves to Red Bull Leipzig last summer for a fee of €32.5 million, but that moved collapsed meaning that he stayed in the Netherlands. His contract situation means that any fee this summer is expected to be lower.

The Dutch international missed just two minutes of league football in the season just gone. He is currently with the Netherland squad ahead of Euro 2024.

Liverpool target wanted by Milan

AC Milan are reportedly accelerating their efforts to sign Santiago Gimenez amid links with Liverpool.

It is being reported in the Italian press that Milan are looking to replace Olivier Giroud with Gimenez after the former's departure for Los Angeles FC.

Tuttosport claims that new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has made Feyenoord striker Gimenez a target this summer following his own move from the Eredivisie.

It has previously been reported that Milan and Gimenez's agents have been discussing a potential move for the £43m-rated centre-forward.

Cody Gakpo reveals unique transfer decision

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has revealed that he left a transfer decision over his future to fate just 18 months before completing a move to Liverpool.

The 25-year-old signed for the Reds from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for a £40m fee. But he could have been playing in the Premier League earlier, with both Southampton and Leeds having a bid accepted in the summer of 2022.

Gakpo has now explained to ESPN Netherlands how he made the decision to stay at PSV Eindhoven.

"You have a difficult decision to make," he said. "And then you go to prayer to talk to God and ask for wisdom. I got that. I presented the three options I had to God.

“People might think I'm strange. I could go to Southampton, Leeds came into the race and PSV wanted me to stay. If I scored once, I would go to Southampton. If I scored twice I would go to Leeds and if I scored three I would stay at PSV.”

Cody scored a hat-trick in his next game, meaning the decision to stay at PSV was made.

Joao Neves transfer admission

Joao Neves has done little to dispell rumours over his future with Liverpool one of the teams linked with an interest in the Benfica man.

Manchester United are said to have seen a bid rejected for the player, potentially leaving the door open for Liverpool to swoop.

The player himself has previously spoken about his future.

"Staying at Benfica next year? I can't promise anything for next season," he said. "My wish at the moment is to stay at Benfica and then we will see, you never know."

Liverpool favourite confirms move

former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has confirmed that he is leaving Villarreal this summer at the expiry of his contract.

The 41-year-old made a total of 394 appearances for Liverpool, keeping a77 clean sheets during a nine year stay at Anfield.

He's now taken to Instagram to confirm his exit from Villarreal.

"It's not easy to say goodbye to what has been, is and will always be my home.

"So many moments and experiences.......... So many memories that I am fortunate to have shared at a Club and alongside such special people.

"It's time to write a new point and followed, I'm sure our paths will cross again because life always takes you back to those places where you were happy.

"Now I need to find the site that will help me write the last chapter, feeling very prepared and motivated to do so."

Adrian offer makes sense

Liverpool have confirmed they have offered a new contract to goalkeeper Adrian as the departure of three promising academy youngsters was formally announced.

Adrian signed a one-year extension in 2023 but hasn't featured for the Reds since the 2022 Community Shield when they beat Manchester City 3-1 at Leicester's King Power Stadium.

The contract offer comes just days after Hans Leitert was announced as Fenway Sports Group's new global head of goalkeeping with the Austrian tasked with installing a new coaching department at Anfield.

With Leitert overseeing a new structuring of the department at the club and Caoimhin Kelleher's future the subject of strong speculation after the campaign he has just had, I can see why the contract has been tabled. His experience and level of quality mark him out as a very dependable third-choice shot-stopper. It makes sense if the low maintenance Adrian wants to stay in place.

Brutal Dominik Szoboszlai verdict

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai's performance for Hungary against the Republic of Ireland has been described as 'mediocre' - by his own manager.

The midfielder wore the captain's armband and played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 defeat on Tuesday night. But it seems that he didn't impress with his performance.

Speaking to Nemzeti Sport, Hungary manager Marco Rossi didn't hold back in his thoughts.

“This time his [Szoboszlai’s] game was mediocre, Roland Sallai had a better day this time,” Rossi claimed.

“Of course, he had good solutions, as always, but he also made unexpected mistakes that are not typical of him – but mistakes happen in every footballer’s life.”

Adrian offered new contract

Curious to see Adrian offered a new contract by Liverpool.

The 37-year-old is a solid enough third-choice goalkeeper, but after his recent comments eyeing up a move back to La Liga in hope of a bit of game-time, I'm sure many assumed he would depart. He hasn't played for the Reds since the 2022 Community Shield.

Takes up a overseas place in the squads of course, which is why he was left out of the Europa League squad for the first half of the season. Still possible that he could opt to move on, but with Caoimhin Kelleher expected to depart, it would appear that Liverpool aren't wanting to rock the goalkeeping boat anymore than they need to this summer.

Elsewhere on the retained list, Mateusz Musialowski, Melkamu Frauendorf, and Adam Lewis will all leave at the end of their contracts, along with Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip.

Joao Neves transfer latest

Liverpool are just one of several Premier League clubs being linked to Benfica starlet Joao Neves.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United are all said to be interested with the latter as long-term admirers. Throughout Europe Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also being mooted as options for the teenager.

As such, a significant transfer battle could take place this summer with United already testing the waters by submitting a €60million bid, as per Record, that was immediately rejected by Benfica.

If any of the interested parties are to sign Neves ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, it will likely need to be done through paying his release clause of £105million.
