Kuromi (クロミ, Kuromi) is the primary antagonist in the series. She is the self-proclaimed rival or "arch-enemy" of My Melody. After breaking out of Mariland's prison and stealing the Melody Key, a magical artifact imbued with dream-corrupting powers, Kuromi begins her quest of collecting 100 Black Notes in order to resurrect the Spirit of the Dark Power.

Appearance[]
Kuromi appears as a white rabbit with a black devil's tail, wearing a black jester's hat that features a pink skull clip at the center of her forehead. The skull's facial expression changes to match Kuromi's mood. Her eyes are often furrowed to appear determined or angry. Her human counterpart, Kurumi Nui, has dark blue eyes, dark pigtails (presumably to resemble Kuromi's ears), and sports a black off-the-shoulder kind of dress with a large gray bow in the back, matched with cut black sleeves and black lace high-heels. Kurumi wears a rose decoration near her left pigtail and fittingly, also has a black devil's tail that stems from behind the gray bow attached to her dress, similarly to Kuromi.
Personality[]
Kuromi is rebellious, mischievous, and free-spirited at her core, though she does has a soft spot for good-looking boys like Keiichi Hiiragi and Prince Sorara. Her blind-sightedness when she is romantically interested in someone allows her more delicate personality to shine through her tough exterior. In most situations, she is extremely prone to aggression and is frequently shown to be abusive towards Baku.
She is naturally protective of her accomplice Baku, and her friends Nyanmi, Wanmi, Konmi, and Chumi. Throughout the series, Kuromi takes on risks for them to ensure their safety. Although she dislikes My Melody, she does seem to care about her to some extent.
Trivia[]
- Kuromi became friends with My Melody once again in Onegai My Melody: Yū and Ai, a short feature film that preceded Sweet Dance Princess, a Jewelpet movie.
- When Kuromi speaks, she uses the Japanese first-person pronoun "atai" instead of the standard "watashi" as a testament to her rebellious attitude.
- Her favorite foods are Rakkyo and Takoyaki.
- Her tail is her weak point, she would fall unconscious if someone were to step on it.
