Five weeks until Daylight Saving Time ends on November 3rd and we "fall back" an hour.

by Anonymousreply 1September 30, 2024 11:42 PM

I doubt I'll buy a pumpkin this year. But maybe.

by Anonymousreply 2October 1, 2024 12:20 AM

I feel under the weather today. Chilled and listless, I only had coffee, cheese, and crackers for breakfast. For lunch I had a protein shake and strawberries. For dinner I might have Ritz crackers with potted meat, which I love. If I die, you can have my stuff.

by Anonymousreply 3October 1, 2024 12:41 AM

I got a new med at the pharmacy today, and the new baby pharmacist was called over to explain it to me. He fumbled with the box for a bit, and ended up reading me the instructions off the label.

by Anonymousreply 4October 1, 2024 4:27 AM

I can't decide whether I should buy an indoor smokeless grill.

by Anonymousreply 5October 1, 2024 4:55 AM

[quote] He fumbled with the box for a bit, and ended up reading me the instructions off the label.

I worked in a restaurant that had a pretty fancy wine list. I knew nothing about wines. I asked my co-worker what I should say when someone asked me about a certain wine. He said to just re-read what it said on the menu (each wine was followed by a brief description). E.g.,: Fruity with notes of peach and apple.

So, I should say: "That wine is fruity! It has notes of peach and apple!"

by Anonymousreply 6October 1, 2024 5:25 AM

Today is a terribly unremarkable and very underwhelming day.

Could be worse.

by Anonymousreply 7October 1, 2024 2:24 PM

Itā€™s a new month.

by Anonymousreply 8October 1, 2024 2:25 PM

I made Biscoff cheesecake bars, and they turned out amazing.

by Anonymousreply 9October 1, 2024 3:59 PM

Iā€™m going to buy a pumpkin šŸŽƒ but Iā€™ll probably not disembowel it and slop around all the innards

by Anonymousreply 10October 1, 2024 4:47 PM

I don't like River's tiara or outfit today.

by Anonymousreply 11October 1, 2024 9:27 PM

I was disappointed when I opened DL this morning and none of my watched threads had any new posts and there were no notifications that any of my comments had been liked.

by Anonymousreply 12October 2, 2024 2:34 PM

Sorry r12, but we're just not that into you anymore.

by Anonymousreply 13October 2, 2024 2:46 PM

Iā€™m thirsty

by Anonymousreply 14October 2, 2024 3:21 PM

R19 are you a child?

by Anonymousreply 15October 2, 2024 3:22 PM

Hey r15, there is no r 19 yet. Are YOU a child?

by Anonymousreply 16October 2, 2024 4:19 PM

Ok r14 eat my ass!!

by Anonymousreply 17October 2, 2024 4:52 PM

Iā€™m having an exceptionally bad day

by Anonymousreply 18October 2, 2024 4:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 19October 2, 2024 5:08 PM

I had just put on clean socks when I accidentally stepped in stealth cat barf.

by Anonymousreply 20October 2, 2024 6:20 PM

The cat totally knew that.

by Anonymousreply 21October 2, 2024 6:20 PM

I turned my heat on today. It's 68 degrees outside but feels damp and chilly. I like hearing the sound of the baseboard heater coming back to life after having the past four months off.

by Anonymousreply 22October 2, 2024 7:47 PM

R18- Why?

Please explain in detail.

by Anonymousreply 23October 2, 2024 7:56 PM

Fall foliage is coming on beautifully in northern New England, the colors are vibrant.

by Anonymousreply 24October 2, 2024 8:17 PM

I cut down the hibiscus on the side of the house.

by Anonymousreply 25October 2, 2024 9:50 PM

The leaves šŸ are fallinā€™ all around,

by Anonymousreply 26October 2, 2024 9:57 PM

Practicing my hog call

by Anonymousreply 27October 2, 2024 10:23 PM

I have a pain in my shoulder this evening

by Anonymousreply 28October 2, 2024 10:27 PM

Oh god me too and my right foot and left wrist r28

by Anonymousreply 29October 2, 2024 10:28 PM

I didn't like today.

by Anonymousreply 30October 2, 2024 10:50 PM

I feel like I'm going to throw up.

by Anonymousreply 31October 3, 2024 1:19 AM

I've been seeing a lot of skeletons in people's yards. Tall ones, it must be a thing.

by Anonymousreply 32October 3, 2024 1:47 AM

Itā€™s called Halloween fool! šŸ‘»

by Anonymousreply 33October 3, 2024 2:06 AM

Jesus, fuck, Iā€™m watching a new show on TLC. This woman is completely covered in tumors.

Her condition is truly horrific.

You think you have problems? Just look out the front door. šŸ„ŗšŸ˜§

by Anonymousreply 34October 3, 2024 3:37 AM

I can't find sugar free NeoCitran anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 35October 3, 2024 3:44 AM

I just discovered that The Mummy 1932 is on Amazon Prime, I'll be watching it this month.

by Anonymousreply 36October 3, 2024 3:44 AM

[quote]I have a pain in my shoulder this evening

Probably arthritis because of your old age.

by Anonymousreply 37October 3, 2024 3:44 AM

Dracula (1931) was on TCM earlier. What a great movie! Still holds up.

by Anonymousreply 38October 3, 2024 4:02 AM

Woke up to 3Ā°C. It's fucking cold! Will have to change the car tires soonšŸ˜

by Anonymousreply 39October 3, 2024 6:46 AM

Several years ago I bought two economy sized boxes of Bounce fabric sheets. They were on sale and I had a coupon. I finally used up the first box and opened the second box this morning. I recycled the first box.

by Anonymousreply 40October 3, 2024 6:58 AM

I had to catch an adolescent possum in my back yard this evening. I just walked up and stuck a bucket it over it, then flipped the bucket around and put a trash can lid over the bucket to cover it.

I then walked to a nearby vacant field and released it.

I've read they're not dumb, but they sure do know how to act dumb.

by Anonymousreply 41October 3, 2024 7:10 AM

That possum story is kind of whelming.

by Anonymousreply 42October 3, 2024 8:03 AM

I got a very annoyed look from the barista when I asked for an iced pumpkin spiced latte. Sure, the weather was in the 50's but I like crunching the ice when I'm at work since it annoys Pam, my cubicle mate. She's a Christian but a real phony one and I know gay people make her nervous so I'll do little things to annoy her. It really sets her off when I click my pen multiple times so I tell her it's a nervous habit I picked up in school and I just can't help it. I am really hoping she moves soon, I miss looking at porn when I'm at work.

by Anonymousreply 43October 3, 2024 8:27 AM

I'm slightly whelmed by your story, R43, and may have to put myself on Team Pam.

by Anonymousreply 44October 3, 2024 8:49 AM

Wait until she eats the food you bring to work for lunch, r44, you'll see.

by Anonymousreply 45October 3, 2024 8:54 AM

R43, Can't you just fart silently like a normal cube mate?

by Anonymousreply 46October 3, 2024 11:44 AM

People still use pens at work?

by Anonymousreply 47October 3, 2024 11:45 AM

Silent farting is not all that it's cracked up to be, r46.

by Anonymousreply 48October 3, 2024 11:47 AM

Enjoyed a nice walk in the forest with a friend. It rained last night, so the woods looked perfectly refreshed and autumnally moody. Lots of moss, mushrooms, birds you donā€™t hear in the city.

It was a good day.

Informed Delivery tells me I'll be receiving a package from the Passport Office. I'm not expecting anything from the Passport Office. Are they sending me someone else's passport by mistake?

by Anonymousreply 50October 3, 2024 5:47 PM

It's a scam.

by Anonymousreply 51October 3, 2024 6:29 PM

I remember when Halloween lasted a few days.

[quote]I remember when Halloween lasted a few days.

I remember when Halloween lasted one day.

I remember when the five-second rule was the thirty-second rule.

by Anonymousreply 54October 3, 2024 7:12 PM

In Catholic elementary school they would "kiss it up to Gawd". I was already an agnostic in the making so I didn't kiss anything I dropped on the ground up to anyone.

by Anonymousreply 55October 3, 2024 7:17 PM

r46, a silent fart may seem silent but sometimes it produces something liquid. So, I'd rather not risk it.

r47, you mean the lower classes aren't using pens these days? That's so sad.

by Anonymousreply 56October 3, 2024 8:05 PM

I fucked up a recipe. I think it can be saved.

by Anonymousreply 57October 3, 2024 10:56 PM

In the Catholic school I went to, All Saints' Day - November 1 - was a school holiday, which was nice. We always went trick or treating, stayed up late, organizing our candy, then had the next day off.

by Anonymousreply 58October 4, 2024 12:11 AM

R58 Didn't you still have to go to Mass on All Saint's Day as a Holy Day of Obligation?

by Anonymousreply 59October 4, 2024 12:16 AM

R59, I went to Catholic school, but I wasn't Catholic (so, no, I didn't go to mass). I seriously doubt that my Catholic classmates were going to mass on All Saints' Day.

by Anonymousreply 60October 4, 2024 12:19 AM

I decided to cut it off with scissors

by Anonymousreply 61October 4, 2024 1:19 AM

I've become addicted to the Honey Jalapeno Hummus I mentioned in the previous thread. I don't think I should buy it again as I can't leave it alone.

by Anonymousreply 62October 4, 2024 1:52 AM

When some fucker drives past my home blaring their car stereo bass so loud it rearranges my wall hangings.

by Anonymousreply 63October 4, 2024 2:01 AM

Iā€™m so over whole body do commercials

by Anonymousreply 64October 4, 2024 2:05 AM

I'm watching the SYFY channel.

"Van Helsing" starring Hugh Jackman is on.

I don't know why, but VH always draws me in.

It's stupid, corny, not the least bit scary, and the special effects are bad.

I guess it's one my personal so bad it's good movies.

by Anonymousreply 65October 4, 2024 2:07 AM

I have a badly formed rant about personal cleanliness that has been bugging me.

I have siblings that believes that they are by some Aryan (they are not Aryan) genetic lottery, they are clean and immune to bacteria, dirt, viruses, etc.

The concept that clean people are people who clean themselves is foreign. These are the people who leave streaks on the wall when they turn on and off light switches. Flames. Flames up the side of my faceā€¦

by Anonymousreply 66October 4, 2024 3:06 AM

I know someone who just won $250,000 on a $20 scratch off ticket.

by Anonymousreply 67October 4, 2024 4:48 AM

A cousin of mine won a million dollars on a scratch ticket. Before taxes, of course.

by Anonymousreply 68October 4, 2024 5:12 AM

Maybe your cousin will give you $18,000, which is the maximum for tax-free purposes.

by Anonymousreply 69October 4, 2024 5:40 AM

Fat chance, r69.

by Anonymousreply 70October 4, 2024 8:43 AM

$18K per year.

Be greedy. Get $18K now and another $18K in three months when it's 2025.

by Anonymousreply 71October 4, 2024 9:19 AM

R67 &. R68 How are these underwhelming?

by Anonymousreply 72October 4, 2024 10:40 AM

Should I take my walk first or go to Whole Foods first.

I think I shall take my daily constitutional first then do my shopping at Whole Foods.

I ordered a Chantilly Cake online at Whole Foods last night but it won't be ready until Sunday therefore I shall have to make an additional trip to Whole Foods on Sunday just to pick up the yummy cake- which I'm buying just for me.

by Anonymousreply 73October 4, 2024 3:12 PM

The Canada Goose migration is fully on, you can hear them coming a mile away. They rest on the lake and leave at sunset.

by Anonymousreply 74October 4, 2024 3:58 PM

R68, ask your cousin if I can have fifty bucks.

by Anonymousreply 75October 4, 2024 4:00 PM

Tell your cousin I would gladly pay him Tuesday for a hamburger today.

by Anonymousreply 76October 4, 2024 4:16 PM

I imagine thereā€™s been a run on Chantilly cake at Whole Foods after this article from Wednesday.

Well fiddle-dee-dee

by Anonymousreply 78October 4, 2024 5:18 PM

Ordered a new desktop PC to replace the current 15-year-old one because it started crapping out, and I tried redirecting it into a parcel box and it worked! Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow, it's very near my flat. No human contact needed or wanted, even though those delivery boys are usually sexy af.

I'll miss Windows 10 and I VOWED ā€“ on DL, where it counts the most! ā€“ I'd skip 11, but I just can't bring myself to install it on a brand-new computer. So Win 11 it is. Looking forward to not having to wait fifteen minutes for the whole thing to fully boot up anymore, I genuinely don't know why I waited so long. šŸ˜‘

by Anonymousreply 79October 4, 2024 5:19 PM

R79 incredible on many levels

by Anonymousreply 80October 4, 2024 6:43 PM

I would go nuts if my computer took 15 minutes to boot up.

by Anonymousreply 81October 4, 2024 6:48 PM

I just went to the CVS drive-through and there was no one in front of me.

by Anonymousreply 82October 4, 2024 6:49 PM

I'm going to upgrade my phone plan to unlimited data. Most people probably already have this. I had unlimited data several years ago, but had to give it up in order to get unlimited talk and text.

This will probably cost me an extra $20 to $25 per month.

by Anonymousreply 83October 4, 2024 6:56 PM

I'm sick today, but it isn't Covid. Just a plain ol' cold.

by Anonymousreply 84October 4, 2024 7:09 PM

R77- I just had a craving for that cake. I had not been aware of the NYT article even though I read the NYT online frequently. It is just a coincidence. I do agree with this article in the NYT there will be a run on the cake. I ordered it late last night. If the article had not been published I probably would have been able to pick up the cake sooner than Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 85October 4, 2024 7:19 PM

I've never tried that Chantilly (Whole Foods) cake. What's so good about it?

by Anonymousreply 86October 4, 2024 7:28 PM

Itā€™s got a Pretty Face

by Anonymousreply 87October 4, 2024 9:01 PM

Publix Chantilly Cake is good as is their Raspberry Elegance Cake.

by Anonymousreply 88October 4, 2024 9:06 PM

There used to be a notorious red neck bar in my area called Chantilly Lace. Made my skin crawl.

by Anonymousreply 89October 4, 2024 9:09 PM

My area may be considered a food desert, but Iā€™m not tempted by cake.

by Anonymousreply 90October 4, 2024 9:50 PM

Walgreens keeps nagging me about my prescription is ready for pickup.

by Anonymousreply 91October 4, 2024 11:27 PM

So, pick it up, ya lazy asshole!

by Anonymousreply 92October 4, 2024 11:28 PM

I picked mine up at Walgreen's this morning. Only one in line on front of me. So overwhelmed!

by Anonymousreply 93October 4, 2024 11:35 PM

Bacon makes my gallbladder angry.

by Anonymousreply 94October 5, 2024 12:20 AM

Have it removed, R94! I did, and I don't miss it at all!

by Anonymousreply 95October 5, 2024 12:23 AM

..Can't stop thinking about my crush whom I saw on the subway a day ago

by Anonymousreply 96October 5, 2024 6:31 AM

Vertigo by Hitchcock on. I never cared much for it and, after reading a few howling reviews on IMDB, I now know why! Jimmy plays a freaking middle-aged sex pervert/STALKER. I never realized it.

by Anonymousreply 99October 5, 2024 2:17 PM

How many cookies are we talkinā€™?

by Anonymousreply 100October 5, 2024 2:48 PM

R99, that's not the achievement it used to be. The packs are 30% smaller than when I was a kid.

by Anonymousreply 101October 5, 2024 5:51 PM

I got into a fight with gravity last night and lost.

by Anonymousreply 102October 5, 2024 5:55 PM

^ I read this as "gravy" and figured it had to do with mashed potatoes...

by Anonymousreply 103October 5, 2024 6:07 PM

[quote] The packs are 30% smaller than when I was a kid.

I bet the cookies are too. I bought a bag of Tateā€™s the other day and I think they are about half the size they used to be.

by Anonymousreply 104October 5, 2024 6:21 PM

^Good catch - absolutely šŸ‘

by Anonymousreply 105October 5, 2024 6:53 PM

I look well preserved

by Anonymousreply 106October 5, 2024 7:13 PM

I ate a whole package of the lemon Oreos (early pandemic) and got stopped up (constipation). Never again.

by Anonymousreply 107October 5, 2024 7:26 PM

R101- Years ago ca. 1999 I could barely finish half a dozen Dunkin Donuts. Today I could finish them and still be hungry and it's not because I'm a fatter whore now than I was then it's because they're donuts have shrunk in size by at least 33% since then, also they are not made on the premises of each store anymore and made FRESH DAILY like the ads used to emphasize.

I enjoyed the Tiara Troll we had here on DL a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 109October 5, 2024 9:47 PM

[quote]Ate a whole pack of Oreos.

That sounds whelming to me, even with reductions in the size of the package and the size of the cookies. Unless you're talking about a snack pack such as you'd get from a vending machine.

by Anonymousreply 110October 5, 2024 10:08 PM

No, I ate that entire, full-sized pack (of Oreos, it was either lemon or vanilla). Not sure how long it took me, but I think it was less than 2 days. Like I said, this was an early Covid purchase. I was hunkered down and wanting comfort food.

by Anonymousreply 111October 5, 2024 10:17 PM

[quote]I enjoyed the Tiara Troll we had here on DL a few years ago.

I'm sure she's still here whenever tiaras are being discussed.

by Anonymousreply 112October 6, 2024 12:12 AM

We haven't had a good tiara discussion for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 113October 6, 2024 12:14 AM

There is an insta account that shows royal crowns. They talked about the crown that Catherine The Great had. It was stunningly beautiful.

They also showed the Shahā€™s Crown Jewels. Also unbelievably beautiful. šŸ‘‘šŸ‘‘šŸ¤“šŸ½šŸ«…šŸ¼

I just made some chicken stock and frankly Iā€™m not sure itā€™s worth the bother.

by Anonymousreply 116October 6, 2024 2:38 AM

It isnā€™t, R116. Plus donā€™t you have to throw out the chicken you used?

Thatā€™s wasteful.

by Anonymousreply 117October 6, 2024 3:51 AM

I just set my stew meat to marinade with red wine.

Iā€™m going to debut my Le Crueset pot with Ina Gartensā€™ beef stew.

by Anonymousreply 118October 6, 2024 3:54 AM

[quote] I just made some chicken stock and frankly Iā€™m not sure itā€™s worth the bother.

Why do you say that? People always say it's "liquid gold," etc.

I've thought about buying a Costco rotisserie chicken because I wanted to make stock with the bones. (I don't think you need to waste the meat in there. Although I'm sure it's better if you use some meat.)

by Anonymousreply 119October 6, 2024 4:23 AM

Well, it was actually quite a bit of bother. SautĆ©ing the chicken spattered a lot of grease. Some burned me. Pouring the hot soup through a strainer was quite messy. Then I had to de-grease. Given that itā€™s just an ingredient, Iā€™m not sure Swansonā€™s isnā€™t the ticket.

Yesā€”I threw away 3lbs of chicken, though I bought the cheap brand.

by Anonymousreply 120October 6, 2024 5:54 AM

[quote]Iā€™m going to debut my Le Crueset pot with Ina Gartensā€™ beef stew.

We get a lot of cheery fatties on these threads! I like them!!!

by Anonymousreply 122October 6, 2024 5:18 PM

The new PC is working beautifully, I can't believe it takes all of five seconds to see the login screen! Never again. I'm feeling so much more productive already.

Couple of things marred my experience, though. First, that one USB-C port can't be used for charging my mobile phone because the computer shuts down immediately. Apparently it's only for data transfer? So that sucks. Why would anyone design it that way?

Second, I forgot my national digital certificate password, so I can't access the online portal where all my health records are stored, and I can't communicate with my primary physician and dentist. So now I'll have to go back to the old computer and export the certificate with a new password. This is a relatively minor annoyance, though.

Lastly, I won't be torrenting porn anymore, because apparently the constant writing/reading that entails isn't good for my new SSD hard drive. It'll be a healthy change for me, I think, so that's not really a loss.

by Anonymousreply 123October 6, 2024 5:39 PM

Long walk through town, the park.. was lovely.

Wish my shoulders wouldnā€™t start to hurt so much after about 30 minutes of leisurely walking.

by Anonymousreply 124October 6, 2024 5:43 PM

Yeah. It looked wrong when I wrote it. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 125October 6, 2024 6:37 PM

We need a fire park for urban dwellers. I donā€™t want to keep a barbecue grill or a fire pit.

Every once in a while I want to set something on fire. The park would feature nonflammable surfaces to burn wood. Visitors would set their fire, extinguish it when done, and clean up all evidence.

by Anonymousreply 126October 6, 2024 6:47 PM

[quote] First, that one USB-C port can't be used for charging my mobile phone because the computer shuts down immediately. Apparently it's only for data transfer? So that sucks. Why would anyone design it that way?

Seems like a normal design. I don't consider the ports in my computers as charging ports. They're for data transfer.

Plug your phone into a wall or a power bank, if all you want to do is charge the battery.

Kevin Lee Jacobs (YouTuber) made a "quesadilla" loaded up with black beans and sweet potato, about an inch high. What the hell. It's supposed to be relatively flat and mostly cheese.

by Anonymousreply 128October 6, 2024 9:32 PM

I love Kevin Lee Jacobs' house, inside and outside.

by Anonymousreply 129October 6, 2024 9:34 PM

R129, does it seem like he's always cold in that house, though? He's always layered up (in clothes) in his kitchen.

I don't know if you remember my post about the housefly that got into the house. I thought it had gotten out or Cos had eaten it. Turns out, it was atracted to the Zevo bug catcher and got stuck, as it should have. It scared the shit out of me when I changed the insert! Until now, it's just been gnats and fruit fly-type insects that it's caught. Seeing that huge fly was quite a jolt.

I'm finally having my second bathroom updated. Kohler is installing a new tub and shower wall and I'm getting a handheld and overhead shower head. I have to buy the vanity and toilet but they will install it. I'm so happy. I hate the shower doors and would like a shower rod. Once installed, I shall take a long luxurious bath and rinse off with the handheld spray head. I've lived here 25 years and all other rooms have been painted/updated.

by Anonymousreply 142October 7, 2024 4:23 PM

As long as the bathroom is Barcelona brown with gold fixtures, r142, youā€™ll be ok.

I hope you got the taller elongated bowl.

by Anonymousreply 143October 7, 2024 4:40 PM

You're lucky to have two bathrooms during a bathroom renovation.

by Anonymousreply 144October 7, 2024 5:05 PM

Time to flip grandma over in bed

by Anonymousreply 145October 7, 2024 5:10 PM

R142, the bathroom will be an off-white color with grey walls to match the grey marble vinyly flooring that's already installed. I would like a higher toilet with elongated seat. I just have to make sure the dimensions are the same as the current toilet. I really wanted to keep the grey tub but a replacement was the better choice (it's not a metal tub). If I had the money, I would have had a clawfoot bathtub installed. I love those and almost bought a house just because of the tub.

Yes, R144. I am extremely lucky. When I had the kitchen redone, and was waiting for the countertop and sink, I was washing dishes in the bathtub. It was no easy feat, considering the damned shower doors.

by Anonymousreply 146October 7, 2024 5:24 PM

r127 Interesting, I charge all my stuff (phone, headphones, flashlight...) through the USB port on my computer because it's physically closer to me and handier than the outlet in the wall. I'd charge my electric shaver that way as well if I could. Never considered I was an outlier in that respect.

The 14 oz. squeeze tube of Daisy Sour Cream is just too much for my occasional needs. I need to stick to the small 8 oz. container of sour cream and only get the big tube when I'm having guests. Actually, I wish Daisy or Breakstone or the supermarket brand would offer a 4 oz. container which would suit my needs even better.

by Anonymousreply 149October 7, 2024 7:06 PM

Iā€™m eating birdseye frozen peas with a dash of salt and a pat of butter. It soothes my needs.

by Anonymousreply 150October 7, 2024 7:50 PM

Fats are added for flavor, moisture and texture.

by Anonymousreply 151October 7, 2024 7:53 PM

Peas are a decent source of fiber.

Men under age 50 should have 31-34 grams of fiber daily.

Men over 50 should have 28 grams of fiber daily.

A half cup of peas has 4.4 grams of fiber.

But if you have IBS or are on a FODMAP diet it's probably best to stay away from peas as they are naturally rich in sorbitol and fructose.

Itā€™s not like you have to soak each bean variety separately.

I often top a toasted Thomas plain mini bagel with avocado. Wholly Guacamole plain avocado or mild guacamole. Those little Wholly cups are so handy.

I never looked at it that way. It's my "fusion" bagel. šŸ¤£

My day just never started today.

Oh, I did things. Had to let an engineer in at 8AM to take measurements on the front door. Did all my back exercises. Watched English Teacher and some YouTube videos and by noon I just knew it wasnā€™t going to happen for me today.

Iā€™ve been off work since June and I canā€™t really tell the difference between self-care and depression anymore? Am I depressed? I donā€™t think so. I am very kind with myself and get a lot of joy from my existence.

Iā€™m waiting to hear about a job interview. Waiting to hear about some other things. I feel like sometimes you just have to be patient, it doesnā€™t have to be negative. Sometimes there just doesnā€™t seem to be a lot going on. Mostly Iā€™m grateful I can amuse myself and I guess thatā€™s what matters.

I was at Trader Joe's and bought their Frozen Lemon Bars for the first time.

I was standing there in the aisle reading the back panel, and it says you can defrost them on a plate and serve them as if you've made them yourself.

For some reason that made me laugh, as it sounds like something you'd see in a TV sit com.

I'm going to try that with my boyfriend and see if he thinks I made them.

R182 being out of work and looking is really tough. I was out of work for 9 mo once. I can't remember anything about that time except that I gained weight and worried about money. Days ran into each other. My house was a mess. I stopped showering every day. It was before covid so when covid hit I kinda knew what to expect. Since I have no discipline except about work, it was difficult to make myself do things. But when I did, I felt at least I accomplished something that day. Keep at it. All will be well. Assuming your resume is in Microsoft Word, just save as a PDF. You might have to "print" and THEN save as a PDF.

Just came back home from the cinema, watched the LEE film, by (and with) Kate Winslet.

NOT underwhelming, however.

by Anonymousreply 280October 13, 2024 6:43 PM

R279 may win most underwhelming post. Certainly a finalist.

by Anonymousreply 281October 13, 2024 6:52 PM

R279 But did you keep the thin bar of Dial soap and put it with others you've been keeping in order to melt and reform them into a soap ball or another bar of soap?

by Anonymousreply 282October 13, 2024 7:49 PM

You can melt soap?

by Anonymousreply 283October 13, 2024 7:52 PM

My thin shower soap goes to the sink for handwashing until it gets too thin for that and then the trash. But this melting concept opens a whole new world.

by Anonymousreply 284October 13, 2024 7:54 PM

No, Ma @r282, I didn't.

But I did think of you as I was tossing the thin soap in the trash and how you would have disapproved of my actions.

by Anonymousreply 285October 13, 2024 7:59 PM

I looked into it. You canā€™t let the soap get too hot or something undesirable happens, which means you need a thermometer in addition to a double-boiler. The fumes can be poisonous so you need ventilation.

Trash it is.

by Anonymousreply 286October 13, 2024 8:03 PM

You can save your soap slivers and put them in these soap saver pouches/bags and then use the pouch to scrub your skin, it's exfoliating.

Soap saver bags available at amazon, temu, kohls...

You're welcome.

I converted to gel because of the messy soap problem. I tried putting the soap scraps in an onion bag, but it was too ridiculous even for me. If I had to do it again, Iā€™d use a second-hand mandolin slicer and boil the shavings into some kind of goo. I donā€™t have adventure cookware, so Iā€™d have to visit Goodwill.

by Anonymousreply 288October 13, 2024 8:12 PM

Once I open a new bar of soap, I stick the old sliver on top of the new bar when itā€™s wet and keep using it until it is gone, usually down the drain.

by Anonymousreply 289October 13, 2024 9:56 PM

R287 are you a miser?

by Anonymousreply 291October 13, 2024 10:01 PM

There's different "tutorials" on youtube how to handle the small bars of soap to make new bars. The guy (at link) shreds his prior to "melting" them down, then puts the mixture into a makeshift mold.

Personally, I just attach the small bar of soap to the new bar of soap when they're both wet with warm water while I'm in the shower.

River is considering sending out autographed photographs of himself for a modest fee if there is enough interest. If this is something you would be pay for, make your interest known in the comments section of his latest video so he can determine if there is a demand.

He said he knows it's vulgar and pretentious but that's who he is. I have to agree it.

This is an odd way to increase his earnings. He has been asked many times for his skincare routine which he refuses to divulge because the manufacturers' aren't paying him to advertise for them. But how can they offer to sponsor or pay him if he doesn't first make it known he uses their products? I don't understand his logic.

r350, I also dislike that River is right wing and has said some disparaging things about Biden.

I started watching him when he had an ASMR channel before he had the Sussex channel. I love a British accent. He doesn't do ASMR anymore and he did take down the ASMR channel for a while but then put the old videos back up. He did a lot of ASMR role play, bitchy waiter, posh sales associate selling clothes and accessories, etc.

Unfortunately, most of the anti-Sussex youtubers are MAGATs and have awful, grating voices.

At least River has a nice voice, provides some entertainment with his costumes, occasionally a little British history lesson and I like seeing his thrift shop finds.

He goes in the bathtub, r412. I really do hate bathing him at home. I would like to have something like the link below, maybe I would wash him at home more. In the summer I just spray him with the hose and/or wash him in his kiddie pool. The groomers do such a nice job, though. I drop him off, run some errands or go for a coffee, and pick up my handsome boy who likes to show off and strut around town before we go home.

He's a golden retriever and goes to the groomer about every 6 weeks. Last time was the first week of September when we got back from vacation so it hasn't been too long, but he stinks like dirty socks. Bath time after 9:00 walk.

My car's tire pressure light came on yesterday morning because of the temperature change overnight. In keeping with the "simple things you don't know how to do" thread, I stopped by the gas station and tried to air up the tires myself, but the light is still on. I guess I'm close enough to needing an oil change so I'll just get them to do it.

by Anonymousreply 422October 18, 2024 12:40 PM

You have to drive a bit before the lights go out so the sensors can determine if the tire pressure is high enough. Or the pressure still wasnā€™t high enough because you didnā€™t inflate them enough. Gas station air pumps arenā€™t very precise.

It happens to me all the time for the same reason. Buy a tire gauge to read the pressure and a small pump that plugs into the cigarette lighter to fill them.

by Anonymousreply 423October 18, 2024 2:49 PM

r422 I have to press a button under the dashboard after putting air in the tires to get the light to go off. If you did that and it's still on you might have a problem.

by Anonymousreply 424October 18, 2024 3:25 PM

r415 I had a large dog and a bathtub in NYC and groomers were expensive. A friend and I talked about opening a Doggie Wash. Just do it yourself washing stations, like a carwash. Wish we'd done it.

by Anonymousreply 426October 18, 2024 3:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 427October 18, 2024 4:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 428October 18, 2024 4:59 PM

Sometimes I think I'd like to live in Japan because of the food.

Then I read how government and banking business can't be done online as it all has to be done manually in person, you have to bring back gifts for your co-workers when you go on a business trip or on vacation and there are no trash cans on the streets and you have to take your trash home with you and I think well, never mind.

by Anonymousreply 430October 18, 2024 5:14 PM

Depending on how old your vehicle is, but you have to recalibrate that tire pressure indication thing. If you have a touch screen, you have to look in your manual to see how.

That happens to my vehicle as well. Good thing Discount tire helps you for free.

R430 ha! And don't forget Japan is extremely xenophobic. Probably the only country on Earth that gets away with it. But really, if you are not Japanese, you will always be a stranger, whether you've lived there for 2 or 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 439October 19, 2024 12:35 AM

Home Depot or similar, Black and Decker tire pump. Has a gauge which isnā€™t that accurate, $20

Auto Zone or similar, a professional tire gauge (big dial, made of real metal, usually encased in rubber), $10

Trip to the local garage/Goodyear/Pep Boys store to see if itā€™s a slow leak in the tread or the sidewall.

by Anonymousreply 440October 19, 2024 12:39 AM

R438, try to get a used tire to hold you over or if itā€™s a leak, they might be able to plug it. Try a small garage or filling station.

I finally found an iPhone wallpaper (from Apple) that I like. It's the one that shows the whole solar system (planets in position in concentric circles around the sun). Apparently, it is live / dynamic.

Show butt crack with any kind of luck, r532.

by Anonymousreply 533October 22, 2024 3:05 PM

You should, R532. The tech checks the unitā€™s energy efficiency, cleans the burner, tests the electronics that determine how cleanly itā€™s running and measures the individual thermostat readings in all three zones hso that when you call for 72 degrees, you get 72 degrees. Thereā€™s also an automatic shut off system that closes down both the furnace and the water heater in case of a leak he tests as well. Takes half/three quarters of an hour, once a year, and totally worth it. I just wish heā€™d find a better cologne.

R533: not this one. Skinny as a rail. ā€œThereā€™s no ā€˜thereā€™ back thereā€ to misquote Gertrude Stein.

I'd be careful with all of these electrical extensions, cables, and adapters. At the end of the day, you're dealing with electricity and you could cause a fire if you use cheap stuff and/or overload one adapter / outlet.

My barber told me heā€™ll be 81 next week. He charges $18 for a haircut. Heā€™s good, too.

by Anonymousreply 547October 22, 2024 11:29 PM

Steady hand at that age, then, R81.

Or at least, I hope.

by Anonymousreply 548October 22, 2024 11:31 PM

No, TJ Maxx, those styles you show on your commercials are most certainly NOT available at your stores here in my town. We get the left-overs of your left-overs.

Nothing that stylish. Ever.

by Anonymousreply 549October 23, 2024 3:41 AM

R549 I feel the same way about my grocery store. I live inner city. It's like the burbs send all their old produce to my store to die.

by Anonymousreply 550October 23, 2024 4:06 AM

My mini meatloaf needed salt. I had a head of cabbage so I made half Cole slaw, and the other half sautƩed with bacon and onion. Cabbage is so good that way. No im making snickerdoodles.

by Anonymousreply 551October 23, 2024 5:16 AM

By far the snickerdoodle are the best thing and theyā€™re not even homemade.

Hereā€™s the kind of place I live red in blue California 2024: When you call 911 about a disturbance the first question they ask Every Single Time is ā€œare they Mexican?ā€.

by Anonymousreply 553October 23, 2024 6:00 AM

Speaking of Mexican: Fernando Valenzuela has just died! šŸ˜šŸ˜¢šŸ„ŗšŸ˜©

OMG, I gutted. I am genuinely sobbing right now.

My whole family became Dodger fans when he was playing. It was glorious to see him break the damn Yankees during the ā€˜81 World Series.

by Anonymousreply 554October 23, 2024 6:16 AM

He did die! 63 years old! I was able to watch him pitch (during the heyday) at Dodgers' and Jack Murphy (San Diego) stadiums. I think it was his Mike Scioscia days.

I also got to shake hands with Steve Garvey during that time.

by Anonymousreply 555October 23, 2024 6:52 AM

Wow, how lucky, R555.

šŸ„¹

They havenā€™t revealed cause of death. Supposedly he had been admitted to the hospital earlier this month. He also quit his announcing job with the team in September, not even finishing up the season.

by Anonymousreply 556October 23, 2024 7:01 AM

R556, yeah, I was very lucky to be living in So. Cal. at that time. Mike Scioscia is still alive. We'll see what he has to say. But yeah, Fernando brought a ton of excitement to MLB, the way he looked upwards right before he pitched. He was actually from Mexico, too, so that brought a lot of new fans to the game.

by Anonymousreply 560October 23, 2024 2:26 PM

Holy shit, I just found out about Valenzuela. How can this be? Tommy Lasorda only died a couple of years ago.

I wasn't interested in the World Series after both my picks lost their championship series but this changes things.

Update: Dollar Tree Dishwasher Packs

I've used them for two light/medium loads i.e. dishes, mugs, glasses, silverware, utensils. No pots. Everything came out clean as usual except a silicone/nylon Oxo turner (spatula) that I laid horizontal in the top rack. It still had a bit of dried egg film on the edge but that has happened before even with Cascade. The scent isn't as strong as Cascade which I prefer. I will continue to use them for everyday light/medium loads. If I use them for a heavy duty load with really dirty pots or baking pans, I will update.

I also gave a canister to a friend. He has used them a couple of times including for pots and everything came out clean as usual. But his pot usage consists of boiling water for ramen or pasta or Kraft Mac n Cheese and I wouldn't count that as a heavy duty load.

by Anonymousreply 562October 23, 2024 2:49 PM

This thread is not to discuss DEATH.

by Anonymousreply 563October 23, 2024 2:56 PM

If we open up to death, Iā€™m going to torture every single one of you with meandering tales of depression without paragraph breakss - just a big wall of text with random ā€œPenisā€es and ā€œLabiaā€s to catch the pervsā€™ eyes. So I can torture them further.

by Anonymousreply 566October 23, 2024 4:57 PM

Calm your tits, R566.

I find your bossy antics whelming.

by Anonymousreply 567October 23, 2024 5:46 PM

My cost of a colonoscopy without anesthesia was $1,500. Thatā€™s more that two pairs of shoes. Thatā€™s more than rent. Itā€™s not something I look forward to doing again - unless the alternative is death, of course.

by Anonymousreply 568October 23, 2024 6:04 PM

r568 why don't you have insurance or Medicaid?

by Anonymousreply 569October 23, 2024 6:07 PM

R569, I do! I thought this was cheap.

I saw my subwat crush today again, we happen to be ssated a breath away from each other, I was speaking to a friend for a 1/4 of the ride, and when he left I suddenly froze and became so shy about our ckose proximity that i keptmy head dow the entire ride. Also walked super fast, when we got off our mutual stop, took thw escalayor down, before boarding the second train which we both always ride to our final stop. I caught the train first, door closeses before subway crush could get on....

I decided to cook my oatmeal this morning on the stove instead of the microwave- which is how I have been cooking it for many years- and the oatmeal boiled over and onto the stove. Eventually I will get the hang of cooking it on the stove.

by Anonymousreply 585October 24, 2024 4:16 PM

Why not just stick with the microwave. Seems easier.

by Anonymousreply 586October 24, 2024 5:08 PM

It's better on the stovetop or when someone cooks it for you.

by Anonymousreply 587October 24, 2024 5:12 PM

R586- The only reason I decided to change for the first time today is because some video about health had something negative to say about cooking things in the microwave. Do you think it's perfectly safe to cook my oatmeal in the microwave?

by Anonymousreply 588October 24, 2024 5:12 PM

It's better overnight in the refrigerator. Then, if you prefer, you can heat it up a bit in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 589October 24, 2024 5:29 PM

The septic people finally came back, after having disappeared for days, at 11.55 today.

They left for lunch at noon.

by Anonymousreply 590October 24, 2024 5:30 PM

[quote] Do you think it's perfectly safe to cook my oatmeal in the microwave?

Yes, I do. I eat steel-cut oats (they're different from rolled oats - another DLer thought it was a fancy way of saying rolled oats).

I do an overnight soak and then microwave. Every day. I'm healthy.

by Anonymousreply 591October 24, 2024 5:32 PM

I cook my steel-cut oats in an Instant Pot. No need to stand over a stove stirring the pot. I make enough for several days, reheating in the microwave.

by Anonymousreply 592October 24, 2024 5:37 PM

Oatmeal is high in the amino acid Arginine.

If you are prone to cold sores you should either eliminate foods high in arginine or take Lysine along with the high Arginine food to help balance the Lysine/Arginine ratio.

Arginine is also helpful for erectile dysfunction.

by Anonymousreply 593October 24, 2024 5:41 PM

Who said they had cold sores.

I have a hankering for a Carvel cake.

by Anonymousreply 595October 24, 2024 6:41 PM

I mentioned to a friend that I plan to go to the Aldi near my home. He said I should go to the Aldi that is a bit farther from my home which has a better "ambiance".

by Anonymousreply 596October 24, 2024 6:54 PM

Could be true. I used to drive to a supermarket (same) chain that was maybe an extra 3 miles further due to the ambience. The one closer to my apartment had a sketchy parking lot.

by Anonymousreply 597October 24, 2024 7:06 PM

Speaking of oatmeal, Trader Joe's has a product call Organic Rolled Oats with Ancient Grains & Seeds. Highly recommend. The seeds are not anything big, just little chia and flax seeds.

I was going to bake some Jewish Apple cakes tomorrow for the Saturday night& Sunday dinners with my neighbors. However, my favorite fisherman Mike called me& asked if I needed food. I ordered 6 Jewish apples cakes, cinnamon buns, donuts, Danishes for my home plus munchie breakfast foods (a lot of food) with coffee for the Bf& his work crew at the office.

Plus real dinner food for both nights, lots of fish, chicken and pork. Plus, fish stew& NE clam chowder.
