Homemade dipping sauce for fries

Dip your french fries in something so much more exciting than ketchup, like Boom Boom Sauce! It’s a mayo-based chili and garlic sauce made with easy ingredients. The creamy, spicy, and sweet flavors help regular french fries taste like the best comfort food ever.

I’m a huge fan of great dipping sauces, like ranch dressing and barbecue sauce, but a boom boom sauce recipe is on an entirely different level. There are a few different ways to make it, but most recipes feature mayonnaise, ketchup, chili sauce, and garlic. My version has extra layers of flavor and spice thanks to Sriracha and dijon mustard.

It’s a fantastic dipping sauce to serve with air fryer french fries, shrimp, burgers, baked potatoes, grilled meat and seafood, chicken tenders, and so much more! Try doubling the batch because you’ll be going through it all in no time.

What does boom boom sauce taste like?

If you’re a fan of sweet, spicy, and garlicky flavors, then you’ll love boom boom sauce. These qualities make it the perfect dipping sauce for fries and burgers, but you can easily play with the spice level or amount of sweetness depending on what you’re serving it with.

The mayonnaise and ketchup base does a great job of cooling down the spice from the hot sauce while sweet chili sauce adds an extra layer of sweetness. Finish it off with mustard and simple seasonings for balance and depth, and you have a perfectly delicious boom boom sauce.

Boom boom sauce ingredients

Besides being a versatile dipping sauce that always makes french fries taste better, this sauce is also easy to make with simple ingredients. You likely have most, if not all, of these in your kitchen already:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup – For tang, sweetness, and color.
  • Sweet chili sauce – The speckles of red chili flakes make sweet chili sauce look spicy, but it’s nicely balanced between sweet and savory. Try not to skip it!
  • Sriracha – Or replace it with another hot sauce you have on hand.
  • Dijon mustard – You can use regular mustard but it won’t have the same deep flavor of dijon.
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Salt and pepper
